If you have read our website articles you will know that we like to mix up our playing style dependent on differing situations. For general play, we use the following slider settings but with FIFA 20 requiring even more patience and passing is a little slower than ever before these are the custom settings we use. Obviously, each player will have their own style of playing but using these as a base to start you off could prove helpful.

Our general playing style
Build-up play
Speed — Balanced (71)
Passing — Mixed/Short (32)
Positioning — Organised
Chance Creation
Passing — Favour towards mixed settings (54)
Crossing — (67) like to have options in the box if we’re in wide areas and have midfielders joining in.
Shooting — (62)
Positioning — Free-form (harder to track movement and creates angles for intricate passing)

Defense
Pressure — Deep (21)
Aggression — Contain (21)
Width — (28) Narrow, we like to keep compact in defence and trust our ability to win headers
Line — Cover
These are the settings we recommend if you are a player who likes to play shorter passes rather than playing long, like a quick build-up style of play to build your attacks and like to mix-up the style of play and defend deep and narrow. You can tweak these to suit your style but these are a good base to start off within our opinion. It’s worked pretty well for us!

For an attacking set-up where you pressure the ball high and try win the ball back as soon as possible use the following.
Build-up play
Speed — Fast (82)
Passing — Mixed (56)
Positioning — Free-form
Chance Creation
Passing — Favour towards risky settings (82)
Crossing — This will allow you to get plenty of numbers in the box (85)
Shooting — (80)
Positioning — Free-form will make your players harder to pick up but could ruin your shape (if you’re chasing the game or trying to win the ball back quickly this will help though)

Defense
Pressure — Press (90+)
Aggression — Press (90+)
Width — Normal (55)
Line — Offside Trap — will push them back into their own half and shut down space.

For a defensive set-up where you are trying to see out a game or slow the pace of the game right down then use the following custom tactics for FIFA 20.

Build-up play speed — Slow (8)Passing — Short (12)Positioning — OrganisedChance creationPassing — favour towards safe settings (8)Crossing — Little — you want to keep the ball and have options short (10)Shooting –As above (5)Positioning — OrganisedDefencePressure — Deep (1)Aggression — Contain (1)Width — Narrow, U4GM FIFA 20 Coins Team like to keep compact in defense and trust our ability to win headers, if you can do this too, there is no need to push your players out of position (20)Line — CoverThere are numerous other ways to tweak your tactics like player’s attacking and defending positions and how quickly they join attacks, etc. Remember to play the style of the custom tactic you use. Don’t complain if you choose, for example, this style but when you play long balls, there is nobody to get on the end of them.

For a counter-attacking style use the following settings

Build-up play speed — Fast (94)Passing — Mixed (63)Positioning — OrganisedChance CreationPassing — Favour towards risky settings (81)Crossing — This allows you to get plenty of numbers in the box and people running from deep (86)Shooting — This will get your players to get themselves into great areas to find shots (76)Positioning — Free-form will make your players harder to pick up which is great for counter-attacking as you’ll have lots of runners from deeper on the pitch.DefencePressure — Deep (4)Aggression — Contain (2)Width — Narrow. This will make you compact and get your opponents pushing onto you which is ideal because then you can launch your counter attacks quickly while their players are out of position. (8)Line — Cover — By having your defense set to cover they will drop deeper and entice your opposition to advance further up the pitch. Again, ideal for starting your counter attacks.

For a keeping, possession style use the following settings
Build-up play
Speed — Slow (18)
Passing — Short (22)
Positioning — Organised
Chance Creation
Passing — Safe (16)
Crossing — Little — you want to keep the ball and have options short (8)
Shooting –As above (8)
Positioning — Organised

Defense
Pressure — Deep (10)
Aggression — Contain (25)
Width — Wide.

By keeping your defense playing with plenty of widths when you win the ball it will be so much easier to retain possession of the ball as you will have plenty of options both short (because of your earlier settings) and long, playing with the natural width. (85)
Line — Cover
Use this style if you’re comfortable in a game and want to frustrate your opponent, we like to play this kind of football and usually achieve around 60% possession when using these settings.

For a compact defense, use the following settings
Build-up play
Speed — Slow (20)
Passing — Short (20)
Positioning — Organised
Chance Creation
Passing — Safe (1) — will stop players making runs they don’t need to be
Crossing — Little (5) — you want to keep the ball and retain your team shape Shooting –As above (5)
Positioning — Organised
Defense
Pressure — Deep (1)
Aggression — Contain (18)
Width — Narrow (1).

By keeping your defense playing so narrow it will keep your team shape rigid and solid. Full-backs will tuck in towards their CB’s and midfielders will drop deep to add to the compactness of the team shape.
Line — Cover

For a direct style of play use the following settings
Build-up play
Speed — Fast (72)
Passing — Long (85)
Positioning — Organised
Chance Creation
Passing — Risky (91)
Crossing — Lots (78)
Shooting — (78)
Positioning — Organised
Defense
Pressure — Deep (10). By playing a deep line you’ll get the play stretched which will help to leave more space for your long balls to have more effect.
Aggression — Contain (15). See above
Width — Wide.

By keeping your defense playing with plenty of widths when you win the ball it will be so much easier to retain possession of the ball as you will have plenty of options to go long, playing with the natural width. It will also give your players more time on the ball to pick out those long balls with more accuracy. (88)
Line — Cover

For a Tiki-taka style of play, use the following setting

Build-up play speed — Balanced (56)Passing — Short (17)Positioning — Free-form chance CreationPassing — Mixed (40)Crossing — Little — you want to keep the ball and have options short 16)Shooting — (45)Positioning — Free-formDefencePressure — Deep (10)Aggression — Contain (25)Width — Wide. By keeping your defense playing with plenty of widths when you win the ball it will be so much easier to retain possession of the ball as you will have plenty of options both short (because of your earlier settings) and long, playing with the natural width. (80)Line — Cover

For a high-pressure style use the following settings

Build-up play speed — Slow (28)Passing — Short (28)Positioning — Free-form chance CreationThese high slider settings will ensure your players push on and will mean you have more players in the opposition half, so, if you do give the ball away then you can go ahead and press to win the ball back very quickly. Passing — Risky (78)Crossing — Lots (87)Shooting –As above (87)Positioning — Free-formDefencePressure — (86)Aggression — (80)Width — Wide. By keeping your defense playing with plenty of widths when you win the ball it will be so much easier to retain possession of the ball as you will have plenty of options both short (because of your earlier settings) and long, playing with the natural width. (69)Line — Offside trap

For parking, the bus style use the following settings
Build-up play
To park the bus and rarely look t attack with more than 1 or 2 players, use this tactic.
Speed — Slow (12)
Passing — Short (15)
Positioning — Organised
Chance Creation
Passing — Safe (16)
Crossing — Little — you want to keep the ball and keep that team shape rigid (10)
Shooting –As above (10)
Positioning — Organised
Defense
Pressure — Deep (1)
Aggression — Contain (1)
Width — Narrow. By keeping your defence playing narrow, you’ll keep 2 very solid lines running right in front of your goal (parking the bus). (5)
Line — Cover
Obviously, these tactics can be worked in with the new Dynamic Tactics which we cover in
the final part of these guides.
