This is something that you’ll often hear commentators talking about towards the latter part of real-life football games. However, this is something that should be at the forefront of your thinking, right from the very start of the game, as we’ve mentioned a few times before. Here U4GM FIFA 20 Coins teams share you have to Game Management.

First 10–15 minutes are key
Refer back to the section in the guide if you are still unsure on this, but YOU MUST read this part if you are to experience ANY level of success in FUT Champions.

Adapt your play style
Another critical point and something we touched upon earlier. Don’t stick to a certain playstyle if the opposition is clever at stopping it. What is the point in playing into their hands for 90minutes? Change up your style, play short passes, change to longer, driven passes then mix it up and play through the middle rather than the wings. You get the idea.

Killing their patterns of play
Look for repetitive patterns that the opposition is using. Whether that be playing 1–2’a or always looking to play the lobbed through ball look to cut off that source.

EXAMPLE — They always look to play into their winger’s feet and then they play a 1–2 pass with their own full-back. This is a very common source of attack so make sure you notice this early and react to it. If you see their winger play the ball back to the full-back and then turn to run in behind your full back. Switch to the full-back and track the run OR if you don’t react quickly enough, switch to the CB on that side and get him across in a diagonal motion to cut off that space that they are looking to exploit. This is a crucial tip so it’s really vital that you start to understand patterns of play.

TOP TIP — Watch the CHAMPIONS CHANNEL which can be accessed through your console. This new feature from FIFA 18 allows you to watch some of the top 100 players in the world to learn from them. Watch how they deal with killing their opponent’s patterns of play and this will lead to you winning more games for sure.

Closing a game out
Although not as effective as it once was, using the shielding mechanics is always effective leading into the final stages of the game. Depending on a few factors like your team’s stamina/energy levels, the strength of your opponent’s team, in comparison to yours determines how early you should start to close out the game.

Be cautious on the ball and don’t play any risky unnecessary passes. Move the ball on quickly and, if you get the chance, go into the corner and shield the ball. If 2 or 3 men come to take the ball, exit the corner and recycle possession and use the extra numbers you will have to your advantage.

TOP TIP

1. If you get to the corner or you’re running into an empty channel, running as close as you can to the touchline will often mean that if you are tackled, the ball will, 9 times out of 10, go out for a throw-in or a corner and you can run time down by taking your time with the throw-in.

2. Use your goalkeeper to go back. If the pressure is high and you can’t find a pass, then go back to your goalkeeper. This will either create 30–40 yards of space for you to relieve some pressure OR it will mean you have to react quickly as you’re being closed down and then you can hold the lob pass/cross button for the full time to clear the ball 50–60 yards out of your area!
