Every player starts in Division 10, and the aim is to work through the divisions to the top tier (division 1) and try and win the league title, this is the ultimate aim. Obviously, the higher the league you reach, the stronger the opposition will be.

Each season is split into a maximum of 10 games. You get 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Depending on which division you are in, you will get a specific points target for promotion or relegation. The higher the division, the more you’ll need for the title and development.

Promotion starts at around the 12–14 point mark, and as you work through the leagues, you will need more. For example, when you reach division 2, you will need to hit 18/20 points for promotion from your ten games.
Relegation points also increase as you go through the tiers. When you reach division 1, you need to hit 14 points to avoid relegation, and 23 points will win you the title. Not an easy feat to achieve!

Type of players you’ll come up against
You will find that the types of player you come up against in this game mode are the more serious, purists if you will. These players will want to play lots of passing the football and will look to emulate real-life rather than the frantic pace that other game modes such as FUT and Pro Clubs, lends itself to. The higher you climb through the divisions, the more you will notice this. Teams will begin to keep possession better and not just look to go forward at every opportunity. Groups will also mix up their style of play, have custom formations and set pieces as well as being very good at using skills. More often than not, when presented with a clear goal scoring chance, they will take it. In the lower divisions, you may get people wasting opportunities and not punishing any mistakes you make. In division 1 if you aren’t on your game, you’ll more than likely get penalized. Therefore it is essential to adopt the same mentality when playing seasons mode. Unlike FUT where you can have some fun, and you’ll get players trying to score ‘Worldies,’ on seasons it is a more slow-paced affair with more tactical knowledge taking over.

Assessing the opposition early
Determining what type of player you’re up against can give you an early advantage and is something that is very often, overlooked. Are they using skill right from the off or do they pass and move all the time? Even determining this piece of new information will give you a solid base to start from, i.e., not conceding in the first 10 minutes, so you have to chase the game….that’s when mistakes are forced, and you have to abandon your usual style of play to try and get back in the game. There is nothing worse than having to chase the game from very early on, so keep it tight for the first 10/20 minutes and don’t take too many risks.

Best tactics/style to employ
There are many, many pages other tips in both the attacking and defending areas, so please refer to those for more detailed suggestions in these areas. However, to succeed in seasons mode, you need to:
- Ensure you don’t concede an early goal AND if you do, don’t panic and chase the game
- Look after the ball, keeping possession is crucial
- Mix up your play
- Use your goalkeeper; don’t just expect the computer to do it for you
- Pick a formation and stick to it (allows you to become familiar with where players will be when you have the ball in certain areas)
- Use custom tactics and formations to adapt to changing scenarios during a game
- Don’t rush with your goal kicks and when your keeper has the ball in his hands
- If there are no short options to pass to because the team is pressing high, kick long or to the wings
- Be patient
- Use your players attribute strengths (For example, with Real Madrid — If Kroos has the ball use his excellent passing range to your advantage, if Ronaldo or Bale have the ball, look to attack the full-backs and run with the ball or have a strike on goal).
Fundamental stuff really but we guarantee these tips will all lead to helping you become more successful and achieve improved more consistent results. This will see you winning more seasons games and climbing through the divisions by making promotions and hopefully get you into division 1 where you can go for the title.

How to stop a losing streak/lousy run of form
This is a crucial area of FIFA. We all know how frustrating it can be there have been many smashed controllers, headsets and even TV’s across the years (see our extensive section on this in our gameplay guide). It’s vital to stay calm and composed and if you find yourself losing 2 or 3 games on the trot then take a time-out and do something else for a bit. It rarely happens but sometimes does in division 1 for us but if we lose two games on the trot we’ll have a break and step away from the game for a while.

Now, this is the essential part AND why we think we rarely go more than 1 or 2 games without getting our next positive result. The first thing to do, as U4GM FIFA 20 Team said, is to step away from the game: make a drink, grab something to eat, walk the dog, watch some TV. Whatever it is, if you’re desperate to get back on and rectify your form, then take at least half an hour break.

TIP — What U4GM FIFA 20 Coins Team ALWAYS do after we’ve suffered a couple of straight defeats is we’ll take a break, and then we’ll watch some elite-level football, whether it is on YouTube, there’s a game on or you have some highlights recorded watch at least 10 minutes and get a feel for how they move the ball around and try to replicate this when you start your next game. It works for us every time. Give it a try.
