What is attacking what is a spell? Poe players Confused problem
Many new players who join the game of exile will have a question similar to the following: “Is this a physical damage or spell damage?”, “Can this spell attack a few monsters at once?”, “Can chaos damage crit? These kinds of questions are actually very difficult to answer because the problems themselves are wrong. We must start with the game mechanics.
In order to facilitate understanding, I first classify the active PoE skills by Skill Gems according to the label and action type:
1. Attack (including attacks, melee, bow, and arrow, etc.)
2. Spell
3. Special actions (basically the spells of illegal spells, wars, etc. — the trenches were originally spells, and later for the balance of the game, GGG classifies the trenches separately, so that the release of the injury can no longer be released. Trenched)
As you can see from the Gems tag, the attack is still a spell, which is the two major categories that distinguish Gems.
Then, let’s talk about the basics of the game.
In Poe, the output is divided into an attack, spell, and continuous damage.
You can see this in the tips of the cuts. In fact, the “attack” and “spell” in this sentence are not the same as those in the Poe Currency Gems tag above, because the output method of Righteous Fire is continuous damage but still belongs to the spell. This sentence should strictly Yes: Output methods are divided into hit type attacks, hit type spells, and non-hit continuous damage.
In short, the key point we need to know is that attacks and spells are the opposite.
The specific type of damage is divided into physics, elements (three types of ice and fire), and chaos.
The output mode and the damage type can be combined and combined at will.
In Poe, there are physical attacks, elemental attacks, and chaotic attacks. There are also physical spells, elemental spells, and chaotic spells.
So please don’t bring in the common sense of other games and say:
“Is it physical damage or spell damage?” — Physical damage and spell damage are not in a concept. This is not a relationship between “this is not the other”! There are physical spells in POE, such as knife array, knife rain, shock wave totem!
“Is it a spell attack?” — The spell is opposite to the attack, so strictly speaking, it can’t be called in the POE. It should be said “Is it a spell output?”, that is, “output” includes “spells”. And “attacks”, rather than generalized “attacks” in common sense, include “souls” and the “attacks” defined narrowly in POEs, which is too confusing. So the introduction of the concept of “output” is necessary. In the POE, please try to avoid “my magical attack power is too weak”, which still retains the generalized “attack” concept of common sense.
The crit is not crit, it is the hit type Skill to determine, that is, the above attack and spell skill along with the continuous damage.
Don’t take out a damage type “chaos damage” and ask if it can crit? The answer to this question is not knowing! Because the light takes out the damage type of chaos damage, it does not show the effect of the action. It may be a hit with a hit or a spell with a hit, or it may be continuous damage such as poisoning. When it was poisoned, it didn’t hit, so there was no crit.
If you mention hitting, then you have to talk about this setting.
In this game, hits are ubiquitous, and most attacks and spells are hit.
The hit of the attack depends on the hit rate.
The hit of the spell, the default hit rate is 100%. It’s just that you need to touch to hurt, and some slow spellcasters. If you avoid it, you won’t hit this decision.
In short, after the Skill touches the enemy, the hit is judged, the hit is judged successfully, and then the other changes such as the block and the crit and the projectile-related penetration chain are determined.
So, what are the hits? Continuous damage, as well as certain floor skills (such as ice-cooled ground, burning ground, electric ground, etc.).
Sustained damage can be abnormal damage caused by hitting the skill, such as ignition, poisoning, and bleeding.
It can also be that the Skill itself comes with continuous damage, such as Righteous Fire, Scorching Ray, Caustic arrow, Essence Drain, and so on.
These sustained injuries are themselves non-hit.
Please pay attention to the fact that hitting the Skill after the direct damage caused by the hit, the continuous abnormal damage itself is also non-hit.
Here again, “This sentence should be strictly speaking: the output method is divided into hit type attack, hit type spell, and non-hit continuous damage”, just to avoid confusion. For example, the above-mentioned Righteous Fire, which itself has a spell tag, is a spell in the action type of the active skill (Skill type). but! Its damage is continuous damage that is not hit. This also causes the Righteous Fire to be released by injury, because its Skill type is a spell, and the release of the injury can release the spell; but the Righteous Fire does not accept the spell damage bonus, because, in the output mode, it is a non-hit type. Sustained damage.
So, here I distinguish between the “attack/spell” in the output mode and the Skill type. When talking about the output mode, it should be classified according to the hit or not, especially the hit type of attack and the spell is correct. For example, the physical split arrow attack causes poisoning, and this output is also divided into sections. It is the segment of the hit attack/spell, and the second segment of continuous damage, which is two different output modes; when talking about the Skill type, we directly say that the split arrow is attacking Skill, Righteous Fire. It’s like the spell skill.
The above is the basic setting of the POE. We first understand what is the attack and what is the spell, in order to further study the more advanced mechanism of the game.
